Mission

The EHS Student Assistance Program is a school-based early intervention approach to help students who are having difficulty in academics, behavior, health and attendance become successful in school. Trained intervention teams help identify these students and guide them to both school and community resources for support.

Organization

Student Assistance is a program of Edwardsville High School and Edwardsville Community Unit School District 7.

The SAP team shares responsibility for team leader, note taker, “publisher” and timekeeper on a rotating or “as needed” basis.  At every meeting, a “To Do” list is created and members volunteer to complete these tasks by an agreed-upon date.

"Helping Hands," a school district newsletter containing articles focused on youth issues such as drunken driving, eating disorders and a variety of others, is printed monthly and is distributed to all EHS Staff as well as every other school in District 7.

Membership

The Student Assistance Program’s core team is made up of an administrator, trained teacher volunteers (one of which serves as team leader/facilitator) and an early interventionist from Chestnut Health Systems.  When available or needed, adjunct team members such as school psychologists, social workers, nurses, counselors, school resource officers and probation liaisons also attend meetings.

REFERRAL PROCESS & FORM

Referrals to the SAP team can be made by parents, students, or EHS staff.  Two referral boxes with initial referral forms are located in the Media Center and in the teacher mailroom.  Once the SAP team receives the referral, data is gathered and reviewed by the team.  An action plan is created and shared with appropriate personnel on a confidential “need to know” basis.  Plans are reviewed on a regular basis.

Click the following link to obtain a referral form. Please place the completed form in a referral box.
